LAFC Secures a Playoff Spot After Dramatic Galaxy Draw
LAFC and the Galaxy delivered another thrilling match at BMO Stadium. The visiting Galaxy took a 2-0 lead, but LAFC responded through star player Buanga.
Wilta, a young player who began this season and wears number 81, then found himself in the right position to convert a pass from Sonny and equalize at 2-2.
LAFC nearly scored the winner in the 97th minute, but the goal was disallowed after captain Aaron Long, number 33, was ruled offside. The teams split the points, with one point each.
That point secured LAFC a playoff place in sixth. The Galaxy, meanwhile, remains in the fight.
LAFC has developed a devoted fan base, supported by the energy and atmosphere at its stadium. Its accessibility also helps: fans can take the Expo line to the stadium, while attending a Galaxy match requires traveling south to Carson. These factors have helped LAFC become a prominent Los Angeles team.
The Galaxy has struggled over the past two or three seasons and has not been able to reach the playoffs. Ricky Puig, the star player who helped make the team champions three years ago, has dealt with another injury, taking some of the luster away from the team.
In the Eastern Conference, Inter Miami sits in second place behind Nashville and has already qualified. Miami lost to the New York Red Bulls despite Messi entering from the bench for the second half. Carlos Gil also scored a massive goal to secure a victory for New England.
Nashville is the team to beat this season, with Miami struggling to catch up. In the West, Vancouver and FC Dallas occupy the top spots. Dallas has not performed at this level for five or six years, making it exciting to see new teams emerge.
The playoffs are approaching, with Decision Day in three weeks.
