NEW JERSEY SPORTS BETTING: BEST SPORTS BETTING AND PROMO OFFERS

Sportsgrid-Staff

Sportsgrid-Staff

New Jersey sports betting has existed since 2018, and this state was the catalyst for the overturning of the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA) in May 2018. The first New Jersey sports betting sites went live shortly after that.

Even though sports betting has been available for some time, new players are joining every day, and the sites are constantly evolving.

Below, I’ll examine online sports betting in New Jersey. This will include looking at the best NJ sports betting apps, how to place wagers, discussing the legality, the top teams in the state to bet on, betting markets, and much more.

Let’s dive in.

List of Online Sports Betting Sites in NJ

Before reviewing the best New Jersey betting sites in more detail, look below for our rankings. You’ll also discover our exclusive bonus offers for each site, which you can redeem now.

Top-Rated New Jersey Sportsbook Sites

While there are about a dozen online NJ sports betting sites, I’ve narrowed these down to the top seven in the state.

Sure, the rankings can be seen above, but below, I’ll discuss in more detail what makes these sportsbooks great, including the welcome bonus, partnerships, how the mobile app works, and other unique and standout features that set it apart from the rest.

FanDuel Sportsbook NJ

Before I discuss the welcome bonus, I must say that I recommend FanDuel Sportsbook NJ to all brand-new bettors.

Why? It’s simple—their betting guides.

At FanDuel Sportsbook NJ, you’ll be exposed to Betting 101, a guide filled with video and text content to educate you on all things NJ sports betting. Further, they have sections dedicated to each sport and how the betting markets apply to those.

As for the welcome bonus, new players will receive in bonus bets after a wager.

Beyond the guide and the welcome bonus, FanDuel offers several routine promotions, and it’s most known for its profit and odds boosts.

As for the mobile app, it’s extremely easy to use and you’ll find that it’s a carbon-copy of the desktop site. I always rate mobile apps/desktop user interfaces highly when they mimic one another as this eliminates all possible learning curves.

At the bottom of the app, there’s a menu that stays with you regardless of where you venture on the app. These links bring you back to the homepage, allow you to view your bet history and the online casino, and help you navigate your account more.

The standout betting market here is futures bets and parlays. There are ample future betting opportunities per sport, including several awards in the NFL. For parlays, there’s Parlay Hub, a feature that allows you to sort bets based on your preferences and build the perfect parlay.

FanDuel Sportsbook NJ is partnered with The Meadowlands and New York Jets.

BetMGM Sportsbook NJ

Partnered with Borgata and the New York Jets, BetMGM is the go-to place if you enjoy the concept of parlay betting. No matter what game you’re interested in wagering on, chances are BetMGM has several pre-built Same Game Parlay options for you to choose from. Additionally, there’s the Easy Parlay page, which streamlines the entire parlay-building process. You can sort by sport and bet type and view everything quickly.

I’ve found this especially helpful when games are about to begin, and I need to place a wager quickly.

As for the welcome bonus, BetMGM offers a way to make your first wager while knowing that, if you lose, you’ll still get it back as bonus bets.

BetMGM is another mobile app that’s extremely similar to the desktop site. It includes a search bar prominently displayed atop the app and quick links at the bottom to the promotions page.

Speaking of promotions, in addition to the welcome bonus, BetMGM often has things like extra winnings, and there’s the free-to-play game Swing For The Fences, where you can win bonus bets.

bet365 Sportsbook NJ

If you think you may be someone who will want to utilize promotions and bonuses often, bet365 Sportsbook NJ is likely the spot for you.

From the jump, you’ll find something that no other New Jersey sports betting offers: A choice between two welcome bonuses.

From there, regardless of the sport you like to wager on, bet365 likely has a promotion for you as they offer numerous early cashout bets. With these promotions, your wager will cash out after the team you bet on goes up by a specific number of points. For example, in baseball, if you bet on a team and they go up for five runs, you’ll automatically be paid out.

There are also profit boosts and the option to edit bets before the games go live.

As for the user interface design, I don’t mind it as it functions well, is easy to navigate, and there’s no buffering or lag, but I can’t deny it’s among the least appealing aesthetically, though that’s subjective and may or may not be important to you.

Caesars Sportsbook NJ

Caesars is one of the most recognizable gambling brands in the world, and yes, there’s a Caesars Sportsbook in NJ. Partnered with Monmouth Park, Caesars brings its signature white and green aesthetic to the homepage of both the desktop site and mobile app, where you’ll immediately find boosted odds bets.

To me, Caesars Sportsbook’s standout attribute is its boosted odds bets. Sure, other online sports betting sites have boosted odds bets, but not to the extent Caesars does.

No matter when you log onto the platform, you’ll find dozens of opportunities. In fact, on the day I wrote this page, I found more than 40, and this ramps up during the NFL and college football seasons. Not only that, but Caesars, in partnership with Genius Sports, offers live streaming on select NFL games.

A feature recently introduced, Fire Bets, is the go-to spot for microbetting. When you open this page, you can sort through betting opportunities immediately happening in games, such as the result of the next at-bat in a baseball game, the result of the possession in basketball, or what’ll happen in the next football play.

Caesars also has an in-depth rewards program that provides in-person and online perks and benefits. Points are earned based on money wagered on specific bet types.

DraftKings Sportsbook NJ

DraftKings Sportsbook NJ has something for everyone, with a seemingly never-ending number of features, promotions, and betting markets.

The standout parts here are the DK Social page, player props, and promotions.

DK Social is a page where you can connect with friends or join groups of other bettors to discuss betting opportunities and see the hottest markets. My friends and I have a group, and we can see what each other is betting on and decide for ourselves if we want to participate or tell a friend they made a bad bet with the chat function.

As for player props, this market allows you to wager on individual player statistics in a particular game, such as a quarterback passing yards, home runs hit, or assists in basketball. The depth of stats and the number of players available are unlike any other NJ betting site.

There are several additional promotions that are typically short-term, such as only that day. These include boosted odds, parlay insurance, odds boosts, and bet and get offers.

DraftKings is partnered with the New York Giants, who’s home field is located in East Rutherford, NJ.

Fanatics Sportsbook NJ

While I like playing at Fanatics, it certainly has a bit of work to do to catch up to the more prominent sports betting platforms in New Jersey. It’s the youngest site on this list and still offers an excellent welcome bonus and rewards program.

Also, if the word “Fanatics” sounds familiar, that’s because, yes, this is the same company that operates the online retailer where you can purchase your favorite player jerseys.

Speaking of that, the rewards program, FanCash, may be able to help expedite those purchases. The program gives you a certain percentage—up to 10%—of your bet back per wager, which can be used on bonus bets or toward a Fanatics site credit.

BetRivers Sportsbook NJ

BetRivers, previously known as PlaySugarHouse, has always been a reliable sports betting site in New Jersey because of its consistency since its launch.

Live betting is a key feature here. While all online sportsbooks in New Jersey offer live betting, BetRivers has an interface unlike any other. There’s live streaming available for select markets, a live tracker that updates as the game progresses, and you can also access plenty of statistics to help make more informed wagers.

BetRivers also offers iRush Rewards, an 11-level rewards program that offers several types of bonuses, such as bonus bets, expedited withdrawals, dedicated customer support, and more.

As you’ll see on the desktop platform and mobile app, the site has a uniquely stylized aesthetic that doesn’t look like any other site, which helps it stand out from others that typically aim for a more modern/polished look.

Legality of Sports Betting in New Jersey?

Yes, sports betting is legal in New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy signed it into law on June 11, 2018, just four weeks after New Jersey won its lawsuit against the NCAA and other professional leagues, which led to the overturning of PASPA.

On June 14 of that same year, Monmouth Park and Borgata launched retail sports betting. The first online sportsbooks went live in August 2018.

To wager here, you must be 21 or older. Betting on college sports is allowed, but wagering on teams located in New Jersey is prohibited.

How to use the mobile app to place a bet in New Jersey

While most online sports betting sites in New Jersey offer desktop platforms, most users will use the mobile app. It’s convenient, and bets can be placed from anywhere in New Jersey. But how do we get started?

Below, I’ll provide a step-by-step process and go into further detail.

  1. Open the app store for your device.
  2. Search the online sportsbook you want to play at.
  3. Download the app.
  4. Open the app and create an account. The link to this is typically found in the upper right corner of the homepage. You’ll need to provide personal information like your name, date of birth, address, and more.
  5. This is also the section where you’ll use any promo codes if required.
  6. After you create an account, make your first deposit. The link to this is in the upper right, where the login/registration button was before you created an account.
  7. When you deposit, make sure you follow the welcome bonus terms and conditions. For example, at DraftKings, you must deposit at least $5.

After funds are loaded into your account, you can begin wagering so long as you’re within the borders of New Jersey. All online betting apps have geolocation software programmed into them to track your location to ensure you are.

To place a bet, browse the available markets and select a bet.

Upon selecting a bet, the betslip will appear. This is where you can create parlays or input the amount you want to wager.

Once you’ve decided what to bet on, input the amount, confirm the bet, and wait for the outcome.

Available Betting Markets in NJ

In New Jersey, you’ll be able to wager on numerous sports. These change throughout the year as seasons for specific sports begin or events like Copa America, the Olympics, or the World Cup begin.

Here’s a list of sports you can expect to find:

  • Football
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Hockey
  • Soccer
  • Aussie Rules
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • Emmy Awards
  • Golf
  • Handball
  • Motorsports
  • MMA
  • Rodeo
  • Rugby
  • Snooker
  • Tennis
  • Table Tennis
  • Track and Field
  • Water Polo
  • Volleyball

There could be even more other niche markets at select sportsbooks.

As a reminder, College sports betting is allowed, but you cannot wager on teams in New Jersey. High school sports betting is strictly prohibited.

Top New Jersey teams odds

New Jersey has a few professional teams in the state, but there are technically two NFL teams. Look below for the odds for the most notable teams in the Garden State.

Banking and Payment Options available in New Jersey

While I can mention sports betting platforms that I think are the best, if you’re unable to deposit or wager money there, it’s not a site you’ll ever want to play at.

With that, let’s look at some popular banking methods here.

  • Online Banking
  • Credit Card
  • Debit Card
  • PayPal
  • Venmo
  • Apple Pay
  • Gift Cards
  • Play+ Card
  • Wire Transfer
  • Check
  • PayNearMe

You’ll likely also find other methods at select betting sites, but these are the most common.

In browsing the best betting sites in New Jersey, you’ll find different requirements for minimum deposits and withdrawals, so be aware of that. At some, you may need to validate your identity, including sending in a photo of your government-issued ID.

The timeframes for withdrawals also vary by sportsbook, but I personally use methods like PayPal, online banking, and Venmo, and I typically receive my funds within the hour of submitting the withdrawal.

NJ Mobile Sports Betting

As I discussed above, NJ mobile sports betting apps are what you’ll likely find yourself using most. In doing so, you can create accounts at multiple top platforms to compare odds and take advantage of their promotions.

For me, the mark of a top-tier sports betting app is judged by how much key information I can find without scrolling. This includes the login/registration button, deposits, promotions, customer support, and betting markets.

I highly recommend all seven NJ mobile sports betting apps mentioned above. They’re all available for both iOS and Android users.
