Chiefs vs. Broncos: NFL Week 8 Showdown Recap & Insights

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Outspoken With Dan Sileo

Broncos Rally Exposes Concerns About the Chiefs’ Offense

Championship teams put opponents away, but the Chiefs failed to hold their lead in a difficult road game at Denver. The Broncos rallied behind strong play-calling from Sean Payton and came away with the win.

Bo Nix can function as a game manager while occasionally producing high-end plays, including accurate throws on the run. He may not win games with spectacular plays consistently, but Denver’s coaching and defense make the Broncos a tough, pesky team to beat. Allowing them to secure home-field advantage would be especially challenging because winning in Denver is so difficult.

For the Chiefs, recent games have shown a common theme: Kenneth Walker has been bottled up more than he was early in the season. Opponents appear determined to take him away and force Patrick Mahomes to win through the air with his current receiving corps.

Mahomes remains capable of keeping Kansas City competitive, but the passing game is not operating at the same consistent level seen earlier in his career. Travis Kelce is still good, though he is no longer the same high-end option he once was. Against top-tier opponents, the Chiefs do not have enough at receiver and tight end to win consistently when the game falls entirely on the passing attack.
