World Series Betting Preview: Brewers vs. Rays Odds & Insights

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Pushing The Odds with Matt Perrault

Brewers Enter as World Series Favorites, but the Rays Remain a Live Underdog

The Brewers are favored to win the World Series, with prices ranging from roughly minus-150 to minus-170 depending on the book. They have home-field advantage and Misurovski starting Game 1, but the Rays should not be discounted. A four-game sweep would be surprising.

I have decided to wait until after Game 1 before making another bet because I want to see what the Brewers’ offense looks like. The Brewers need to win every game Misurovski starts. If they win the opener, the Rays’ price could move from around plus-140 to approximately 2-to-1, creating a more appealing opportunity to hedge.

If Tampa wins Game 1, the outlook changes significantly. The Rays would take home-field advantage after beating Misurovski, with Rasmussen, Martinez and Freddie Peralta still available. Those three pitchers could be problematic for Milwaukee, which makes the Misurovski starts especially important.

Milwaukee would then have Logan Henderson going in Game 2 and could lean on its bullpen. As things stand, this feels like a coin-flip series. I believe the Brewers will win, but I would be disappointed rather than shocked if the Rays took the championship.

That uncertainty creates a betting decision. With a 12-to-1 position on Milwaukee, betting six units on Tampa at plus-140 or plus-150 could guarantee a profit. Under that approach, a Brewers championship would return about six units, while a Rays championship would return about eight units. The alternative is to let the original Milwaukee bet ride.

The Brewers remain my pick, but the Rays cannot be ignored given how well they are playing and how well they have performed all year. If Tampa wins, it would be an unassuming and unusually quiet first championship, similar in feel to a title that receives little attention outside its home market.
