FIFA President Infantino Awarded Presidential Medal by Kosovo

In October 2025, FIFA President Gianni Infantino was awarded the Presidential Medal by Kosovo, which is among the highest honors the country can bestow. This recognition was given due to Infantino's significant contributions to the development of football on a global scale, as well as his dedicated support towards Kosovo's football community. The medal presentation occurred in Pristina and was conducted by President Vyosa Osmani.

Kosovo, which became embroiled in turmoil after the breakup of Yugoslavia and the subsequent conflicts that followed, declared its independence in 2008. By 2013, Kosovo had gained widespread international recognition but continued to face challenges. The membership in international bodies such as FIFA represents not only a triumph over these struggles but also a significant symbol of global acceptance and support.

Infantino highlighted in his acceptance speech the importance he placed on integrating Kosovo into FIFA immediately after his presidency began in February 2016. Just three months later, Kosovo was welcomed into FIFA under his leadership. This organizational membership enabled Kosovo to participate in international games, beginning officially in 2014, and marked its competitive debut in the qualifiers for the 2018 World Cup.

President Infantino's efforts have made substantial impacts on Kosovo's football scene, transforming it into a source of national pride recognized globally. Through initiatives like the FIFA Forward Program, Kosovo’s football infrastructure has seen significant improvements. This includes the introduction of the Video Assistant Referee system, the installation of synthetic pitches, and upgrades to local stadiums, enhancing the sport's overall quality and accessibility in the region.

Moreover, recent initiatives such as FIFA Football for Schools and Kosovo’s involvement in the FIFA Talent Development Scheme highlight a sustained commitment to growing the sport, particularly focusing on increasing female participation in football.

Infantino concluded his remarks by encouraging continued investment in football, emphasizing its unique ability to unite and uplift a country, reflecting on football’s inherent capacity to inspire belief in future generations and foster a sense of community and global connectivity.
