FIFA Africa Office Unveiled in Rabat: A Catalyst for Global Football Growth

During a significant ceremony in Rabat, FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced the opening of the FIFA Africa office, set to commence in 2025. This strategic establishment, located at the Mohammed the 6th football complex, is anticipated to have a global impact on football, enhancing FIFA's connections with its 211 member associations worldwide. These connections aim to foster football's growth both locally and globally, making the Morocco office a pivotal hub alongside existing FIFA offices in Paris, Miami, and Jakarta.

The ceremony was a moment of unity and celebration of football's potential, with Infantino expressing extensive gratitude towards Morocco, King Mohammed the 6th, and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. He highlighted the contributions of Fauzi Lekja, the federation's leader, in advancing football infrastructure and the sport's development in Morocco and Africa.

The FIFA Africa office is heralded as more than just a sports center; it is envisaged as the nerve center for Moroccan and African football and a critical point for world football. Morocco’s increasing role in international football was underscored by the men's national team reaching a World Cup semi-final and the women's team getting to the knockout stages of the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time.

Fauzi Lekja's leadership in football is noteworthy as he holds significant roles including the first vice president of CAF, a member of the FIFA Council, and chair of the committee overseeing the joint candidacy of Morocco, Spain, and Portugal for the 2030 World Cup.

Looking ahead, Morocco will not only host the Under 17 Women's World Cup for the next five years but also share hosting duties for the 2030 World Cup, marking it as the Centenary World Cup. This role emphasizes Morocco's increasing influence and capability in global football, signaling a new era of opportunities and responsibilities for the nation.

With the operational commencement of FIFA's Africa office, the region is poised for further integration into the global football community, marking a significant step towards uniting the world through the beautiful game.
