Warren Discusses Seattle’s Play Calling and Sam Darnold’s Early-Season Performance

Asked how much the offense misses Clay Kubiak’s play calling, Warren said Brian has done a great job. The offense does not look much different from last year, but it has been less effective running the ball because it does not have the same personnel.

Warren noted that Sam Darnold and Brian already knew each other from their time with San Francisco. Brian understands what Darnold likes, and Darnold is familiar with Brian’s approach. That familiarity has helped shape the game plan, but the offense still needs all of its available personnel to succeed. Warren believes the group will be fine once those pieces are in place.

Evaluating Darnold’s play this season, Warren said the quarterback has performed well, although not as well as he did at times last year. The biggest concern has been turnovers, particularly early in games. Darnold has sometimes thrown an interception on his first pass, so he needs to start games better and protect the ball. Aside from those turnovers, Warren believes he has played pretty well.
