Saints and Giants Face a Crucial, Unpredictable Matchup
The Saints will take on the Giants in a game between two teams eager to move past recent disappointments. The Giants want to put last week behind them, while the Saints are trying to recover from a difficult stretch after looking strong during the first couple of weeks of the season.
The Jameis Winston show remains unpredictable. New York and Washington both had chances to win last week before the game ended in a tie. With oddsmakers viewing the Saints and Giants as relatively even, this is a difficult matchup to call.
When Winston plays good football, the Giants usually win. However, this is also the point when his turnovers can begin to pile up, potentially leading to another quarterback change. Based solely on the odds, this looks like a possible Saints victory, though neither team inspires much confidence.
New Orleans enters a do-or-die scenario. Another loss would put the Saints close to falling out of contention, making this a game they cannot afford to lose.
There is also drama surrounding the Giants’ backfield. Naji Harris is expected to start because of Cam Scatabo’s fumbling issues. It remains unclear how much Harris will play or whether the move is simply a brief punishment intended to send Scatabo a message.
The Saints have several concerns of their own. Tyler Shuck is dealing with broken bones in his non-throwing hand, Chris Olave has an illness, and Alvin Kamara is not fully healthy. Despite those issues, New Orleans desperately needs a win.
The preferred side is the Saints at minus 1.5. The Giants have found ways to win games, but they have also benefited from matchups against Arizona and Tennessee. New Orleans should be capable of earning a road victory, improving its position in the NFC South standings, and remaining in the division race.
