Rams’ Offensive Struggles Fuel Doubts About Playoff Chances
The LA Rams entered the game with known problems on special teams and in the secondary, but their offense had been performing well. Against Arizona, however, they delivered one of the poorest offensive showings under Sean McVeigh.
The Rams committed two turnovers in Arizona territory, including a Higbie fumble. Another major concern came on fourth-and-11 with three and a half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. The Rams called a short pass to Kyron Williams, and the play was stopped immediately.
Arizona coach Mike LaFleur outcoached McVeigh despite Arizona not playing particularly well. The Rams continue to show different problems each week, whether in the secondary, on special teams or on offense. Those recurring tendencies have created serious doubts that they can perform like a championship team.
McVeigh often credits the opponent and promises the Rams will correct their mistakes the following week. The frustration is that his postgame intensity has not translated into better execution on game day.
One view is that the Rams have shown enough to conclude that they will miss the playoffs. The opposing view is that it is too early to make that declaration because the team has not yet operated with Miles Garrett. At 2-4, the Rams also have four extremely winnable games ahead. Winning all four would leave them at 6-4 and in a much healthier position.
Despite that potential path forward, confidence in the team has faded. Even with Miles Garrett returning and the possibility of a strong run, the belief remains that the Rams will not make the playoffs.
