NFL Trade Talk: Marvin Harrison Jr. Joins the Texans!

Segment Spotlight: Quick Hits From Outspoken With Dan Sileo

Marvin Harrison Jr. Trade Could Shape C.J. Stroud’s Future in Houston

USA Today’s Jacob Kamaker shared his thoughts on the Houston Texans’ acquisition of Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Arizona Cardinals. He was somewhat surprised that Nick Casario gave up a second-round pick, particularly after Harrison recorded five catches for 85 yards and a touchdown through the first four weeks of the season.

Kamaker described Harrison as an extremely talented player who needed a change of scenery. He also noted that the receiver’s contract could give Houston two more years of team control beyond this season. Although he considered the price high, he liked the fit because the Texans desperately needed a second receiver alongside Nico Collins.

Harrison also has an established connection with C.J. Stroud from their college days at Ohio State. Kamaker believes that familiarity could help both players get back on track after a difficult stretch. If Houston can turn Harrison’s career around, he could become a top-tier player for the Texans.

The move could also have major implications for Stroud’s future. Kamaker believes Houston acquired Harrison specifically to help its quarterback as Stroud approaches a period in which he must prove himself. By adding a familiar and talented receiver, the Texans are surrounding Stroud with enough support to evaluate whether he can be their long-term franchise quarterback.

If Stroud cannot succeed with Harrison and the other talent around him, Kamaker said Houston may have to reconsider its future at the position. The next year and a half could therefore be critical as Stroud attempts to establish himself as the Texans’ long-term answer.
