Jonathan Taylor Trade Speculation and the Jets’ Backfield Decisions
It is difficult to trust the Colts, although they have the right opponent this week. The more interesting question is whether Jonathan Taylor will remain in Indianapolis.
Phil Simms discussed the possibility of Taylor being traded and suggested the 49ers as a potential destination. That move would put Taylor in the same backfield as Christian McCaffrey.
The Colts should continue denying that they plan to trade Taylor until they have to say otherwise. Doing so makes it appear that they want more in return. However, if they are seeking a second-round pick or multiple second-round picks, playing Taylor on Sunday would risk his trade value through a potential injury.
If Taylor plays, the expectation is that he will remain in Indianapolis. If a trade is possible, do not be surprised if he is inactive Sunday morning. Fantasy managers should have other options prepared.
Breece Hall said he is ready and plans to play for the Jets, but he could also become a late scratch if he is available for a trade. His potential return is not enough to justify betting on the Jets, even with the number at 9.5 or 10.
At this point, the Jets should consider trading players. If they are interested in winning games, they should give Braelon Allen a much larger workload. Hall received a contract extension and was one of the NFL’s best running backs two years ago, but injuries may have caught up with him. He does not currently look as good as Allen.
The Jets should continue handing Allen the ball until Hall looks fully healthy. If they can trade Hall and receive a third-round pick in return, they should make the deal.
