Cleveland Browns' Quarterback Strategy: Focus on Future Drafts
The Cleveland Browns have been struggling with their quarterback position, cycling through numerous options over the years. As a result, the current roster, including Shador Sanders, does not offer the solution to this persistent issue. Sanders, despite his potential, seems to be more of a backup than a leading quarterback. Similarly, Deshaun Watson does not appear to be the answer Cleveland is seeking.
The strategy should perhaps focus on the long term. By not striving for too many wins this season, the Browns could position themselves for a high draft pick in the upcoming 'Arch Manning sweepstakes,' enhancing their chances of securing a franchise quarterback. Although this strategy might be ideal for the team's future, it poses a risk for the jobs of those managing the team now, including General Manager Andrew Berry. If the team performs poorly, current management might not be around to reap the benefits of a high draft pick.
This tactical approach is reminiscent of the New York Jets' situation, where immediate performance pressures for the coaching staff contrast with the broader organizational goals. Nevertheless, for teams like the Browns and Jets, focusing on acquiring top draft talent might indeed be the wisest course of action.
