Brock Purdy and Mike Evans Power the Undefeated 49ers Past Seattle
The NFC West matchup between the 49ers and Seahawks featured plenty of hard hitting and emotion. San Francisco ultimately earned a 32-29 victory, remaining undefeated behind another impressive performance from Brock Purdy.
Purdy’s processing and decision-making continue to elevate him in the MVP conversation. He is seeing the field well, making quick decisions and rarely making mistakes. That was especially important on the road against a talented Seattle defense that tested him repeatedly last year.
The Seahawks continued to battle back, but the 49ers responded each time. Winning under those circumstances, despite ongoing personnel issues, was an impressive accomplishment and a major credit to Kyle Shanahan.
Health remains the biggest question for San Francisco heading toward December. The team has dealt with numerous injuries, and Debo Samuel left the Seattle game with a hamstring injury and did not return. Ricky Pearsall and Christian Kirk have also been unavailable, leaving the receiving corps short-handed.
Mike Evans has been crucial to the offense in Brandon Ayuk’s absence. The veteran receiver was sensational against Seattle, catching seven passes on 10 targets for more than 100 yards. His production has made the decision by general manager John Lynch to bring him in particularly important.
Evans and George Kittle have become the veteran pass catchers at the heart of Purdy’s passing game. Although Evans has been dealing with a rib issue, he has continued to play through it and perform at a high level.
His ability to catch contested passes has given Purdy a dependable option even when nobody is perfectly open. With so many receivers lost to injuries, Evans has emerged as the stalwart of the group, and the move to acquire him is paying off beautifully for the 49ers.
