5 Most Overrated Teams in the NFL Going Into Week 1

#5 New Orleans Saints
New Orleans showed plenty of promise during the 2nd half of last season when Tyler Shough fully took the reins. In an open NFC South, the Saints could very well find themselves in the race as the season winds down. However, people need to pump the brakes on the Saints winning close to double-digit games, especially with the weaknesses on defense.
#1 Philadelphia Eagles
No team faces more pressure in 2026 than the Philadelphia Eagles, which is wild considering they are just two years removed from hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Last season ended extremely poorly for them, ranking in the bottom half of the league in most offensive categories. A.J. Brown is now in New England, the offensive line is getting older, Saquon is getting older, and Jalen Hurts has to adjust to a new system for the 2nd straight season under OC Sean Mannion. Mannion is known for his West Coast offense, which is not tailored to Jalen Hurts's strengths. Their win total sits at 10.5, but it is not far-fetched to imagine the Eagles looking for a new head coach by season's end.
#2 San Francisco 49ers
No team throughout the NFL has dealt with more significant injuries over the past few seasons than the San Francisco 49ers. They have still found a way to be in the postseason picture come season's end thanks to tremendous coaching. This offseason has brought not only more injuries but also off-field distractions. Head coach Kyle Shanahan is still recovering from a car accident, and team owner Jed York is currently under investigation. With everything adding up and the gauntlet of the NFC West, this feels like a year SF can easily miss the postseason.
#3 Detroit Lions
Many fans and the media have the Detroit Lions penciled in to return to the postseason and win the NFC North in 2026 as they bring back most of their core offensive pieces. With significant free-agent losses on defense, particularly in the secondary, the Lions will have to win plenty of shootouts and could face the same issues that plagued them in 2025.
#4 Pittsburgh Steelers
Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy will have one final go side by side in 2026. The nostalgia factor alone is making fans overrate their ceiling this season. Beyond the QB position, the team leadership, like T.J. Watt and Cameron Heyward, is closer to the end of their careers than the beginning. After an exit in the Wildcard round last season, Pittsburgh could be due for major regression.
