5. Cincinnati Bengals
Despite picking up the victory this past Sunday, the Bengals continued to prove why you cannot trust their defense down the stretch. Cam Ward has had as rough a season as anyone at the QB position and had no issues leading the Titans up and down the field for 33 points. Luckily for Cincinnati, they employ Joe Burrow and Ja'Marr Chase. The defense must improve the rest of the way if they want to be taken seriously in the AFC.
1. Dallas Cowboys
It feels like beating a dead horse at this point, but the Dallas Cowboys continue to prove how overrated they are week after week. This past Sunday saw them blow a 10-point 4th-quarter lead at home to Gardner Minshew and the Arizona Cardinals. At 3-5, they now sit three games back in the loss column to the New York Giants in the NFC East. Plenty of people still believe they can win the division. It's hard not to remember how much excitement surrounded this team going into the season.
2. Carolina Panthers
Despite the NFC South's poor play overall, the Panthers still sit in 1st place with a 3-4 record. The Packers handed them their second consecutive loss last Thursday night, and they have been outscored a combined 80-32 in both losses. They have the benefit of a weak division, but Carolina has many issues to address if they want to repeat as division champions.
2. Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns received a harsh wake-up call this past Sunday at the hands of the Pittsburgh Steelers, losing 27-6. Despite sitting at 5-3, it is difficult to view the Browns as a true threat in the AFC playoff picture. Games like last Sunday prove that while the strides they have made are evident, they still have plenty of work to do.
4. Minnesota Vikings
Sunday was a loss that felt inevitable for the Minnesota Vikings. Their defense held the explosive Lions' offense to just 16 points, but the offensive struggles continue. Despite their 6-0 start, they have statistically been one of the worst offenses in football, scoring the second-fewest total touchdowns of any team in the NFL. The NFC North is also shaping up to be the most competitive division this season. Expect Minnesota's flaws to be further exposed as the schedule gets tougher.
