Forecasting Florida State's Challenging Season
Looking at Florida State's upcoming schedule, it's tough to find more than four wins for the team. Initially, I predicted a 6-6 finish, but upon closer inspection, I'm adjusting that to perhaps 5-7.
Florida State could likely secure victories against New Mexico State and Central Arkansas at home. Boston College, despite being a challenge, is potentially a third win due to their current struggles. The fourth win could be a toss-up, with a possible victory over Clemson at home being the most likely, although uncertain.
However, tougher matchups are on the horizon. Florida State is not expected to overcome ranked SMU, Alabama, a strong Virginia team, Louisville, Miami, or NC State. A challenging road game against Pittsburgh and the season finale against Florida also seem unlikely to add to the win column.
This formidable schedule combined with uncertainties around the team's talent raises questions about coach Mike Norvell's future. With a 2-5 record expected by midseason after a game against Miami, speculation grows that Norvell could be dismissed during the following bye week. Despite some close games last season, there are lingering concerns about the talent level and overall team dynamics under Norvell's leadership.
With a massive financial commitment still owed to Norvell, estimated around $60 million, the situation at Florida State remains complex. The pressure mounts as many begin to question the direction and capabilities of this Seminoles squad.
