Texas Faces Florida as Questions Surround Arch Manning and the Gators’ Quarterback Situation
The Florida-Texas matchup is intriguing, with the Gators playing helter-skelter football and Texas facing questions about coach Sark and quarterback Arch Manning. Are they overhyped or overrated? Overrated may be more fitting, especially while people continue discussing Manning as a potential first overall pick.
Manning showed plenty of good things against Oklahoma, but there were also bad plays, including interceptions. He has talent, but talent alone is not enough. Anthony Richardson also has talent and cannot secure a start in the National Football League.
Texas may have deserved a better result against OU. Manning had done a decent job protecting the football early in the season, but the game included a pick six, a game-losing interception and a blocked punt that ultimately became a touchdown. Despite those mistakes, the defense continued to hold its own.
Florida presents another layer of uncertainty. After owning college football through three weeks, the Gators have failed to show up in two straight games. Starting quarterback Aaron Fio might miss this matchup, which would put Tremel Jones Jr. in line to start.
It is unclear how significant the drop-off would be, and the books may not know either. The key question is how the number will move when the injury report is finalized if Fio misses the game for Florida.
