Australian Basketball Star Joe Ingles Returns to NBL with Melbourne United
In an exciting development for Australian basketball, Joe Ingles is making a notable return to the National Basketball League by signing with Melbourne United. This move marks a homecoming for Ingles as he began his professional career 20 years ago in Melbourne with the South Dragons, where he was named Rookie of the Year and won an NBL title in 2009.
After his initial success in Australia, Ingles moved to Europe where he played for Granada, Barcelona, and Maccabi Tel Aviv. His European stint was followed by a 12-year career in the NBA, playing with teams such as Utah, Milwaukee, Orlando, and Minnesota. Notably, he was a runner-up for the NBA's 6th Man of the Year award in 2021 and is recognized as Utah's all-time leader in three-pointers made. Additionally, Ingles has been a key player for the Australian national team, the Boomers, participating in four FIBA World Cups and five Olympics, including the team that won a historic bronze at the Tokyo Games.
