Cleveland’s Hot Streak Sets Up a Tight Series With Tampa Bay
Cleveland enters its series against Tampa Bay on a three-game winning streak and could give the Rays a serious battle. Although Tampa Bay remains the pick to win the series, Cleveland’s recent form could push it to six or seven games, especially once the Guardians return to their own building.
There was strong disagreement over Cleveland’s chances. Tampa Bay is not expected to repeat the White Sox’s offensive struggles, which included 75 strikeouts in five games. Rasmussen also presents a difficult matchup for Cleveland, with neither team expected to produce many runs.
Foster Griffin’s role remains a question after Cleveland used him in different ways against Chicago, including bringing him into one game during the third inning. After spending much of the season as a starter, he now appears positioned to work as a bulk pitcher.
The opposing views led to a friendly wager involving 5.5 games, followed by a joking switch to 5.5 runs. One prediction had Tampa Bay winning in seven games, while the other showed far less confidence in the Guardians.
Both teams bring strong defense, which is especially important because neither lineup offers much power. Even if the series reaches seven games, five of those games could stay under the total. A bullpen-heavy finish could still create one higher-scoring game, but an 11-6 result appears unlikely.
The biggest change for Cleveland is the return of Jose Ramirez’s impact. After a difficult stretch, he again looks like a game-changing player and was credited with winning the Chicago series for Cleveland. The Guardians’ pitching also held up its end, giving the team hope that it can remain competitive against Tampa Bay.
Both upcoming series have the potential to be close and go the distance. However, the prediction for the World Series is different, with a shorter series expected after so many six- and seven-game matchups.
