Dodgers Viewed as Favorites to Sign Screwball, With Padres as Sleeper Pick

The Dodgers appear to be the favorites to sign Screwball, although uncertainty surrounding owner Mark Walter’s legal proceedings could affect how much money the team has available to spend. There is also a belief that Screwball will sign early.

The Padres are a sleeper pick because of their new ownership and Screwball’s ties to Arizona. He wants to remain in the West, making a move to New York seem unlikely.

The Mets may not be a strong fit because David Stearns is not viewed as someone who favors expensive, long-term contracts for pitchers. The Cubs could also enter the conversation, while the Giants may be willing to spend enough to pursue him.
