Legends in the Ring: Mayweather and Pacquiao Set for a High-Stakes Rematch

Floyd Mayweather Jr., at 49 years old, and Manny Pacquiao, aged 47, are poised to fight once again, marking another significant event in professional boxing. This announcement follows Mayweather's hint at a comeback, tied to a 2026 exhibition match with Mike Tyson and a new multi-fight agreement with CSI Sports. Mayweather confidently stated that the outcome of this rematch would mirror their first encounter, where he emerged victorious.

Since retiring in 2017 with an undefeated 50-0 record after defeating Conor McGregor, Mayweather has engaged in various exhibition matches, ranging from bouts with undersized kickboxers to matches against figures like John Gotti III. Meanwhile, Pacquiao, who briefly retired after a defeat by Yordenis Ugás in 2021, made a comeback to draw with Mario Barrios in 2025, adjusting his record to 62-8-3. His next challenge before facing Mayweather is against Ruslan Provotnikov in an exhibition this April in Las Vegas. Pacquiao expressed his determination to be the first to defeat Mayweather, emphasizing the importance of this rematch to the fans.

The first Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight occurred in May 2015, ending in dissatisfaction for many as a tactical bout delayed by five years, with Pacquiao hampered by a shoulder injury. Despite its underwhelming spectacle, the fight achieved record-breaking commercial success, amassing 4.6 million pay-per-view purchases and generating over $410 million.

The upcoming rematch will be the first boxing headline event at the $2.3 billion Sphere venue, previously spotlighted by a UFC event in 2024. Unlike their first bout, this fight will be available exclusively on Netflix, potentially accessible to its 325 million subscribers on September 19th, foregoing traditional pay-per-view metrics.
