Prediction Markets Point Toward Democratic Senate Gains
In the Iowa Senate race, Josh Turrick stood at 63% in the prediction market, compared with 37% for Ashley Hinson, though there was still time remaining.
In Michigan, where $38 million had been traded on Kalshi, Abdul El-Sayed was at 85% and Mike Rogers was at 15%.
The potential value appeared to be on the possibility that Democrats would not sweep both the House and Senate. However, the market placed the chance of Democrats failing to take the Senate at only 12%.
Those numbers could still change as new information emerges. However, the largest and most heavily traded markets on Kalshi and Polymarket did not appear to be in the balance. Some had attracted more than $100 million, $50 million or $40 million in trading and appeared close to being settled.
No races were being called, especially given the history of major political upsets. According to the markets, however, the Democratic chance of winning the Senate could potentially rise to between 90% and 95%. It had already moved from 78% to 88% within an hour.
The Kansas, Iowa and Florida Senate markets remained worth watching as some of the other major markets appeared to be nearing their conclusions.
Only 1% or 2% of precincts had been reported in some places, leaving a long way to go. That uncertainty is where prediction markets can shift quickly. If early results begin moving against an overwhelming favorite, opportunities may emerge to buy low and sell high before the night is over.
