Expansion of Online Sports Betting in Arkansas
Arkansas is making significant changes to its sports betting landscape by allowing well-known online sports betting brands to enter the market for the first time. Previously, the state's online sports betting operations were exclusively managed by its three casinos, including Bet Saracen. However, new partnerships are emerging, notably with Fanel and DraftKings, who have successfully secured agreements with two of the local casinos. This development positions them directly in competition with Bet Saracen, although they are not partnered with the casino managed by Bet Saracen.
This week, the licenses for Fanel and DraftKings were approved, allowing them potential market entry any day now. These brands are licensing their technology to the casinos but will still effectively deliver their services under their well-known apps, albeit with the casinos retaining over 51% of the revenue. This market change has not been welcomed unanimously; Bet Saracen has expressed concerns about the potential market disruption and the outflow of revenue to out-of-state companies.
The introduction of these significant online sports betting platforms indicates a shift toward more diverse betting options for Arkansas residents, which is generally seen as positive for consumers. Nevertheless, existing casinos that previously enjoyed a more monopolistic control over the state's betting landscape view this shift as a challenge to their established dominance.
